Coffee with the Candidates: #ARElections Day on Today’s THV This Morning

Your Vote 2010

Your Vote 2010

We’ve got what’s shaping up to be an unpredictable — but fun! — Tuesday morning on “Today’s THV This Morning” tomorrow, Election Day.

Hosts Alyson Courtney and Tom Brannon will be live at Community Bakery in downtown Little Rock throughout the show. I’ll be there too, and we’ll chat with some of the state’s candidates for Congressional and state offices, as well as give some final info on all the races and what to watch for on Election Night.

So who exactly’s gonna show up early? “Today’s THV This Morning” Producer Matthew Carroll says he’s called just about everybody — particularly in the U.S. House and Senate races, along with those for the state’s Constitutional offices — and most have agreed to pop in for a final informal chat over some hot coffee and pastries. Elections and eclairs! Should be hoot.

Check it out tomorrow starting at 5 a.m. on Today’s THV to see who shows.

A Packed House at the Third #LRTweetup, at Copper Grill

Last night was the third #LRTweetup and, from what I’m hearing, it was the biggest one yet, with about 70 RSVPs making for a packed house at Copper Grill, our third gracious event host.

We missed the event. Yesterday was Laura’s birthday, and we had a family dinner at her mom’s house. Yep, the only thing that can keep me away from a Tweetup is my wife’s birthday. High praise! So we’re totally down for the next one.

It’s been a kick to hear from everyone about last night, as well as see some great photos from the event, which we’ve posted after the jump. If you’ve got some you’d like to contribute, e-mail them here, along with your name and Twitter username so I can properly credit.

Thanks again to everyone who helped put the event together. Special thanks to Copper Grill for the incredible hospitality, and to Paul Strack of Custom Printing for the cool name tags you can check out after the jump.

And be watching the official #LRTweetup site for information on the next event.

The Old/New Media Discussion Continues

Arkansas Business President and Publisher Jeff Hankins’ newspaper column this week, which we noted and commented on yesterday, has sparked a response from Blake Rutherford over at the Think Tank as well as several follow-up comments from folks including Tyson Foods’ Ed Nicholson, PR pro Natalie Ghidotti, “THV This Morning” producer Matthew Carroll and KZNG New Talk 1340 AM radio man Neal Gladner.

It’s all about the blurring of lines between paid, “professional” journalists and a new breed of Internet-enabled “citizen” journalists — the “hundred years war,” as Kinkade puts it. You can find more via Hankins’ Twitterstream here.

Last night’s Little Rock Tweetup (#LRTweetup) was big fun! Thanks to Natalie Ghidotti and Angel Murphy Galloway for organizing last night’s event at Sticky Fingerz downtown, attended by about 30 hardcore Arkansas tweeters, some of whom dropped in before attending last night’s other big event, the start of the Little Rock Film Festival.

It was great to put a face to the avatar and connect with folks who are passionate about the Arkansas’ social Web community in all its permutations. We had political bloggers, Web designers/programmers, academicians, media folks, marketing professionals, mom bloggers, IT pros, entrepreneurs, lawyers, authors, photographers and more — in short, a great cross-section of our enthusiastic, Web-savvy community.

Meanwhile, thanks to @Tsudo for setting up an official LRTweetup Web site at!

After the jump, another video (thanks @Amybhole!) and some photos from the evening. Have photos of your own? I’ll gladly post them here (e-mail me) or you can link to them in comments.

On we go …

Talking Twitter Tuesday on ‘Today’s THV This Morning’

All a Twitter

All a-Twitter

Tired of Twitter yet? Possibly! But the little microblogging service that could is still generating plenty of buzz — some of it not from bored news editors but people legitimately curious about the service and how it might help their business.

At about 6:20 6:40 a.m.-ish on Tuesday, I’ll give a quick primer on Twitter on “Today’s THV This Morning” and, time permitting, how some Arkansas businesses and other organizations are using the service (which we’ve touched on before on this blog and on the radio). Are you suffering from social media fatique and wondering whether Twitter is for you? Hopefully, we can help you answer that question, as well.

Meanwhile, remember you can follow me @LT and Arkansas Business @ArkBusiness. And be sure to sign up with the THV Morning Crew:
